The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals—which covers Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota—recently affirmed a district court's dismissal of a former employee's Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) discrimination claims because she failed to point to a materially adverse employment action that actually harmed her....
The report, conducted in the United Kingdom by career community Bright Network, also showed that responding students had concerns about their ability to secure a good job related to their studies post-college. According to a press release, despite the well-known importance of internships in helping to get a job after graduation, 35% of undergraduates are not applying for them, indicating that more needs to be done to educate them about the importance of gaining work experience....
Vermont is the latest state to join the growing tide of paid sick leave laws in the states and numerous local ordinances across the country. In February 2016, the Vermont legislature passed a bill that, when effective, will require employers to provide employees up to 3 paid sick days per year for the first 2 years the law is in effect.
