Employers across the country face the daunting task of complying with more than 200 active state unpaid leave laws, in addition to federal FMLA requirements. And in January 2019 alone, 19 different states introduced at least one type of paid leave law. So, as the trend toward more generous leave benefits for U.S. employees gains momentum, employers are increasingly at risk for noncompliance.
