Workforce planning is one of the most important HR-related activities as it sets the agenda for how a company organises it’s people. Often its an activity driven by a "headcount number", rather than on the challenge of how that “number” aligns to particular roles, skills and individual people. The responsibility to make this happen is placed squarely on HR, along with the accountability to both find these people and to accurately predict how long it will take to get them on board, so that the business is appropriately prepared. This is the reality of true Workforce Planning and it’s a lot more than a mere spreadsheet exercise.
