According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 148,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 204,000 per month, compared to an average of 172,000 per month over the last 12 months.
