2016 a year of ‘opportunities and challenges’ for agency IGs

A new report from the Association of Government Accountants and Kearney & Company finds that recruitment, retention and resources are challenges for the IG community.“It was a story this year of opportunities and challenges,” said David Zavada, partner with Kearney & Company, and the survey director. “The challenges that keep coming up year after year are mandated audits that inhibit their ability to really address the most significant risks within an agency, staffing challenges, the HR process being very slow and out-dated, and information security keeps coming up year after year.  But on the bright side I think that there were a lot of opportunities. The change in administration and a new set of political appointees … I think that presents a real opportunity for the community and a lot of the IGs talked about it as an opportunity to present some of their work and identify agency risks and really participate in a very positive way in that process.”
