Diversity within the HR profession
If we take a close look at the Australian Human Resources profession, it’s impossible not to notice the imbalance in gender and race diversity. This is especially so at the early career level.

At The Next Step, of the millennials registering with us, 90% are female and 80% are Caucasian. What does this say about the perception of HR as a career path?

What does it also say about our recruitment processes? Are we recruiting in our own image or are we limited by the current talent pool?

Why are we not attracting a more diverse range of talent into our profession?

The Deloitte report describes the outcome of diversity, saying “It’s a beautiful story of collective intelligence, driven by diverse ideas which are set free through inclusive behaviours.” If ever there was an industry which prides itself on free thinking, creativity and strategy, it’s ours. Now is the time to apply those unique skills to find a way to remove the imbalance in the HR profession.
